A Quick Weight Loss Lesson

quick weight loss diet planSorry to be gone so long. I was in a major stall (Kimkins diet “speak” for stuck at the same weight) and just didn’t have it in me to post on the blog. In actuality, I let myself fall into a pattern of eating a lot of salads as meals. I chose mostly Caesar salads without the croutons and with grilled chicken. I would always ask for the dressing on the side, but that didn’t seem to cut it.

The funny part is that the salads were never more than two cups, but I the scary thing was that I could actually feel cravings for carbs coming back. I wasn’t starving, but suddenly odd cravings for sweets – things I haven’t even thought of in months were popping into my head.

Dill Pickles to the Rescue

A friend suggested that I eat a dill pickle spear to ward off the cravings. I took the suggestion and it really works. But now I know why pickles are not a basic staple of the Kimkin Diet. I didn’t lose a fraction of a pound! The good news was that I didn’t gain anything either. I thought I was being relatively good – so this was very frustrating.

The bottom line — I lost about two weeks worth of progress during the last month messing around with all of this. Part of the problem was that I had some back trouble and maybe I was feeling sorry for myself. Another problem was that my friends were showing up at my work and wanting to go out lunch. The bad news was that I really wanted to go with them!

Stay Active in the Kimkin Diet Community

I’m sure another thing that really contributed to the lapse is that I basically went dark on the Internet and the Kimkims Diet website (in particular, the Kimkins forum). Since I couldn’t really sit up in comfort, I couldn’t post on the forum or even surf the Net. Shame on me - I didn’t update my ticker, track my foods or even my weight. I did weigh myself everyday though, but now I have a big hole in my Fitday Software.
If there is one quick weight loss lesson to be learned: Don’t go off the grid, it’s too easy to get sidetracked and lose your diet focus!!!!!

How Do I Get Back on Track with the Kimkins Diet?

After recovering from my scare with the scale and realizing that I really had only “gained” a couple of pounds (which I suspected was water weight), I decided to get serious again using the Kimkins Diet Plan and see if I couldn’t just power down past the 200 mark and earn my next prize.

I decided that the best way to do that was to do Kimmer Experiment, which is stricter than the regular Kimkins Diet regimen, but it does work faster. I did really well that first week and in fact weighed in under 200 pounds on July 1st. In the Kimkins world they call that being in “ONEderland”.

My usual routine included lots and lots of water and plain lean protein. I like turkey burgers and salmon so I had lots of meals that consisted of just those. I also like mustard and found some Jack Daniels Mustard that is really good with zero carbs. I wasn’t hungry and was so busy catching up at work and home from being gone, the pounds just fell off. Believe it or not, I lost almost seven in just five days.

Prior to my trip I had set a goal to be under 200 (before leaving on the trip) and I was killing myself to get there. I even resorted to fasting a couple of days here and there to hit some minor goals on the way down. But in the end, I just decided to go back to the regular Kimkins Diet and see what happens.

Thought you might be interested in the latest announcement from the Kimkins Diet newsletter. One of Kimkins members has organized a special cruise for all of the Kimkin members and non-members who would like to get away on a 5-day Mexican cruise vacation. The cruise is scheduled for February 23 through the 28th with stops in Galveston TX (starting point), Cozumel, Progreso / Merida, and back home again.

It appears that Kimkins will have access to a conference room which will be available for any meetings or seminars that may be scheduled. There are also tentative plans for a talent show, Kimkins cooking demo and door prizes!

The best part is that the goal of the cruise is to just relax, to mingle and make new friends - lots of fun with no pressure to do anything!

The meals being served will not be exclusively Kimkin diet meals. But it will be a good opportunity to practice good choices in the face of temptation! You might be surprised how well, and healthy, you can eat if you just ask your waiter for food prepared especially for you.

This sounds like a fun time! The activities appear to be in the planning stages, so who really knows what to expect. If this sounds like a great opportunity to meet some of the experienced Kimkins dieters and learn a little more about the Kimkins diet plan, why not get more details at the forum.

A Real Test for the Kimkins Diet Plan

I just got back from a week in Miami with my husband shopping for building materials for our new house (how exciting - NOT!). I took advantage of the opportunity to pick up some new clothes because I have moved into uncharted territory (at least for the last 18 years) and have gone through all of my wardrobe sizes I had stashed away for “thinner” days. What a great excuse for going clothes shopping!

But this trip tested my resolve to stay on my Kimkins diet, especially with eating out for every meal. The challenge was to find and stick with all low carbohydrate foods at the restaurants we visited. Well, it was actually easier than I thought. At times, I had to be a little creative and request that they eliminate this or add a portion of that. The only potential problem I saw was that a lot of the food was high in sodium - lots of salt. But in the end, I feel that I pretty much stuck with the diet and didn’t stray to sugary deserts or mega-carb dishes.

Obviously, the proof would be facing me on the read-out on my trusty scale. I stepped on the scale in the morning and what a surprise - I had gained 8 pounds in only 6 days - what a shock! And what a bummer.

When I told my husband about the gain he told me that he had tried the scale earlier that morning and had a crazy reading and thought that it may be time to change the batteries in the scale. Were my prayers answered? I got back on the scale and breathed a major sigh of relief (after getting on and off the scale two more times). I had picked up only 2.5 pounds and I suspected that it was basically water retention due to all the salty food. We will see over the next few days.

So, I survived a real test of my diet commitment and the Kimkins diet plan won out. All the support I received from the forum and the Kimkins website obviously played a major role in this “test”. I am proud of myself for sticking to the diet and am even more committed to reaching my weight goal.

I’ll let you know if that 2.5 pounds comes off as easily as it went on - let’s hope so!
