I logged into FitDay (a diet tracking program) and entered what I had eaten each day in the food log. By the end of the week, I could really see the drop in calories. Fewer calories, but I still felt full. I was also losing considerable weight. I was thrilled!

I weighed myself every morning right after my first trip to the potty, but before I had anything to drink. I like to record my weight daily. At first it was just exciting to see the numbers go down. But after a few weeks, I could see the real benefit of tracking my progress. I could look back at my daily weight loss numbers and actually pinpoint the times when my weight fell off quickly and when I had a short “stall” in my progress. It really helped me adjust my diet menu to what worked best for me.

You Want Me To Give Up My Diet Coke, Never!?

I read in several places on the forum about other members suspecting that drinking diet soda was slowing down their weight loss. I decided to give up my beloved Diet Coke for a week and see if there really was a difference. Well, unfortunately and fortunately, my weight loss picked up after I stopped drinking the Diet Coke. There seemed to be some validity to the claim.

After that, I would occasionally treat myself to a diet soda, but never at home or at work. I reserved this fine beverage for special occasions and only in small quantities. I read that some members were drinking 4-5 a day, and didn’t have any problems with it affecting their diet.

Despite this, I’ve stuck to this routine and I can say that, so far, I miss the Coke less and less. I have often wondered, though, that if by giving up the Diet Coke I didn’t replace all that liquid with more water – a real diet winner. Hmmm!!!!

Did I Lose Weight – You Bet!

I stayed on the K/E program for the entire first two weeks dropping from 259.5 lbs. to 241.5 lbs. – a loss of 18 lbs. Yippee! It sounds outrageous, I know, but not uncommon on the first two weeks of this program. For those who need to lose more weight, the results have been even more dramatic.

So, was I happy with my progress so far? What do you think? My next post will let you in a little secret I used to break through a minor plateau (or “stall” in Kimkin diet speak) …
